CURCHOREM: Finally, the one lane of the four-lane bridge at Oddar-Curchorem was thrown open for traffic on Monday.
The second phase of another two lanes is expected to be completed in December. People of Curchorem, Oddar, Xelvona and Assolda and nearby areas have heaved a sigh of relief at the inauguration of the one lane of the bridge.
According to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) General Manager Dilip Joshi, the new bridge is built by using latest technology, within 15 months, by installing the pre-fabricated spans without pillars in between and a separate footpath along the bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.
“The second phase consisting of another two lanes is expected to be completed in December 2023. The possible date of inauguration may be December 19,” Joshi said.
The old single-lane bridge which was in a dilapidated condition was used by scores of commuters including heavy trucks laden with iron ore for the last several years with danger of the bridge collapsing. People had to face severe difficulties to reach the Curchorem market during the construction of the new bridge.
