One more held in Mapusa parking assault case

MAPUSA: The Mapusa police on Saturday arrested one more person in connection with the parking assault case.

According to Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Mapusa, Jivba Dalvi, the accused Avinash Lingnar Kolkar (30), a resident of Porvorim has been arrested under sections 504, 354, 509, 324, 427, 506(ii) read with 34 of IPC.

On November 10, the Mapusa police had arrested Ravi Ramesh Talwar, a pay parking attendant from Bastora for allegedly assaulting a couple and outraging the modesty of a woman over pay parking charges. Talwar has been remanded in two days police custody.

The arrest was made after a complaint was lodged by  a resident of Candolim, that he was assaulted by the parking staff.

He had stated in his complaint that he wanted to park his vehicle for two-to-three hours but the attendant insisted that he should pay for the entire day to which the former refused.

This infuriated the attendant who rained blows on the victim, tore his T-shirt and caused loss amounting to Rs 5,000 to him.

Further investigation is underway, DySP Dalvi said.

Meanwhile, market goers and vendors often complain that the parking attendants are foul mouthed and abusive in nature. They allege that the attendants pick on anyone for no ryhme or reason.
