MARGAO: The Directorate of Women and Child inaugurated a ‘One Stop Centre’ at Margao for women who are in physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic crisis.
Bailancho Ekvott has been granted permission to run the centre which is at Junta Quarters in Pajifond.
The ‘One Stop Centre’ is a step towards a new dawn for women affected by violence and abuse. Any aggrieved women including girls below 18 years of age can seek assistance from this centre.
Support by way of emergency and non-emergency access to a range of services including medical, legal, psychological and counselling under one roof to fight against any form of violence against women will be rendered here.
Bailancho Ekvott Convenor Auda Viegas said, “We wanted a place for the women, girls, and children who were in distress and wanted a safe haven for redressing their troubles. It is the happiest moment of my life and on behalf of the women of Salcete, I thank Collector South Goa Ajit Roy for taking a keen interest in getting us the place.”
Viegas also congratulated Deepali Naik, the Director of Women & Child and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane claiming that since they took over, the lives of women in Goa have improved and a lot of changes have taken place on various fronts for betterment of women.
Collector Ajit Roy said, “This is the best thing that has happened for South Goa. It is a concept of Government of India and it is our responsibility to make sure these incidents against women shouldn’t happen.”
The premise at Junta Quarters is a temporary arrangement and according to Deepali Naik, the same will be moved into a full-fledged section in the pediatrics division of the new South Goa District Hospital.
