VASCO: While the Goa State Horticulture Corporation (GSHC) has initiated a scheme to sell onions at 20 per cent less than the earlier rates at the GSHC outlets, residents in the port town have expressed anger as they found GSHC outlets still selling onions at Rs 48 per kilo, instead of at Rs 37 per kilo.
“The horticulture outlets over here are selling onions at Rs 48 per kg. The government is fooling the people by selling onions in selective places at discounted rates of Rs 37 per kg. We were in for a rude shock when we were told by the owner of a GSHC outlet that he had not received any intimation to sell onions at Rs 37 per kg,” said one customer at the Baina GSHC outlet.
“Onion is a vital ingredient in our food and during the month of Shrawan,” said a Hindu lady.
When Herald visited some horticulture outlets, the price of onions displayed at the outlets in Baina was Rs 48 per kilo.
Power Minister Milind Naik on Wednesday had launched the GSHC scheme to sell onions at 20 per cent less that prevailing rates at other GSHC outlets.
