Online Classes: Palyem students, parents highlight plight via videos

Appeal govt to provide better Internet connectivity in their locality

PERNEM: School students and parents from Palyem, Pernem have shared videos on social media platforms appealing the government to provide better Internet connectivity in their locality as they are facing major difficulty in attending online classes.

Students claimed that for over a month, on account of poor/slow network connectivity from various service providers in the area has made it difficult for them to attend the online classes as they fail to understand what is being taught.

The students further claimed that they are compelled to move out of their houses and travel a distance of two-three kilometres to Arambol area/MDR road to avail proper connectivity. To make matter worse, the students said they are facing great difficulties in attending online classes as they have set up benches on the footpaths by the roadside and forced to sit with umbrellas, mobile and books in the rains.

They also raised apprehensions of getting infected with vector-borne diseases by sitting in the open at isolated locations while attending classes.

The parents complained that their kids are compelled to sit by the roadside, walk through jungle and even climb trees to avail proper network connectivity.

In a video, Swanskar Bodke, a Class 10 student from Palyem said, “It’s a month since online classes have started. We have to use apps such as Google Duo or Google Meet to attend classes and for the same proper network connectivity is required. However, since the time the classes have commenced, there is no network service. The month long Internet pack has gone waste. We have walk and visit Bhom-Palyem and sit on the benches which are set up on the footpath by the roadside with an umbrella, book and mobile.”
