PANJIM: The Crime Branch arrested eight persons and seized Rs four lakh cash in two separate raids conducted at gambling dens at Colvale and Mapusa.
According to the police, one Satyawan Naik, a resident of Tarwado, Colvale, was caught red-handed while accepting gambling bets from the members of public in an open public place and seized from his possession cash of Rs 4,200 in different denominations and other gambling articles.
The accused was arrested on December 21, and subsequently released on bail.
In the other incident, a raid was conducted on December 21, and seven persons were arrested for allegedly playing online betting known as ‘Khelo Jeeto Games’.
The police seized a cash of Rs 3,93,560 and two tablets all worth Rs 4,35,560.
The accused were identified as Jitesh Acharya (28) from Khorlim-Mapusa, Mallappa Gandala (34) from Karnataka, Fayez Jahangir (57) from Khorlim-Mapusa, Robulmia (20) form West Bengal, Yogesh Kalangutkar (27) from Sattari, Raju Sonar (33) from Dhargal and Dayanand Arkasli (37) from Guirim-Mapusa.
Further investigation is in progress with ASI Vijay Avkhale of Crime Branch Police Station, Ribandar.
