With 71 new cases on Saturday, the load on the COVID hospital has increased and it has almost reached full capacity.
The COVID hospital capacity has been increased to 220 beds, from 100 initially. The hospital currently has 202 active patients, which means the hospital now has 18 empty beds. At the rate the cases are increasing these could fill up on Sunday.
Besides, there will also be need to increase staff at the COVID hospital in view of the increasing capacity.
When questioned on Friday, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had said that Goa’s recovery rate is good and if need be they already have made arrangement. “We can also look at another COVID hospital, if need be,” he had said.
However, despite consistent questions by the media the CM Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and also Health Secretary Nila Mohanan have refused to reveal future plans for another COVID hospital.
