Only one ADEI for 52 primary schools in Dharbandora

An assistant director was appointed by Education Department after opening an office in the taluka; No need of support staff now since the work is mostly carried out by Sanguem office, says Education Director

It is ironic to find, at least in Goa, Government office manned by one single officer with no support staff whatsoever. And this is absolutely true with the recently commissioned Assistant Director of Education Inspector (ADEI) Office for Dharbandora Taluka.
Inquiries revealed that the Dharbandora taluka is having  altogether 52 primary schools, both aided and government and the ADEI attached to the Dharbandora office has to look after the affairs of all these 52 schools with no support staff.
Earlier the administrative and supervisory work of primary schools coming under Dharbandora taluka was looked after by the Sanguem ADEI office. Some eight months back, at the initiative of the Director of Education Gajanan Bhat a new independent ADEI Office was opened at Dharbandora to look after the primary schools in Dharbandora Taluka.
However, in the absence of any designated space, the office, since its opening some eight months back, reportedly stands housed in a one room premise of a primary school. Though the place to be called an ‘Office’, basically requires support staff as that of a peon, a sweeper and clerks for undertaking the day to day administrative work, the ADEI office at Dharbandora does not have any support staff. The office, as of now, stands all manned by one Assistant Director of Education Inspector. It also does not have landline phone connectivity thereby making it almost impossible to get in touch with the ADEI at times for any emergency or when there is coverage problem with the mobile phone.
All the administrative work of the ADEI office at Dharbandora is presently looked after and performed by the staff at the Sanguem ADEI Office. Herald inquiries revealed that in the event of any administrative work being required to be done, the ADEI attached to the Dharbandora office has to approach its counterpart at Sanguem for getting the work done and forward the same to the head office or to whomsoever it may concern.
When contacted, the Assistant Director of Education Inspector at Dharbandora for details on the subject matter, the ADEI flatly refused to divulge any information. The ADEI refused to answer any questions put to him and remained tight lipped over the issue with no answers.
Director of Education Gajanan Bhat agreed the Dharbandora ADEI office was opened by him some six to eight months ago. Bhat, however, claimed there to be no need, as of now, for any support staff at the newly formed Dharbandora ADEI Office but was quick to add that recruitment for the deployment of support staff at the Dharbandora ADEI office will be done in the coming academic year.
As of now all the administrative work concerning the Dharbandora ADEI office is done and managed by Sanguem ADEI office and it is not much of a problem, claimed Bhat.
However, on being asked over the placement of the office in a one room premise of a Primary School, the Director of Education shot back and asked this correspondent to seek the information in writing for fear of being misquoted.
Incidentally with the opening of the new ADEI office at Dharbandora, the Sanguem Office has fallen short of the services of one ADEI. The ADEI presently posted at Dharbandora was earlier deployed at Sanguem office and since his transfer to the new ADEI office at Dharbandora no fresh deployment of ADEI for Sanguem office is done as of now.
