PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday put the onus on gram sabhas for quick disposal of claims under the Forest Rights Act.
He announced that the Forest Research Institute, Birsa Munda Tribal Museum, Development of Model Tribal Villages for tourism development and many other initiatives are under consideration and will be implemented soon.
The Chie Minister was speaking at the function organized by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare at the Sanskriti Bhavan, Panjim to distribute titles under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in the presence of Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude. The CM presented 78 people sanads of their forest land.
“If gram sabhas fast track their part of the process of disposal of claims under the Forest Rights Act, 5,000 people, meaning 50% claimants will be given sanads within the next 2 months. The government has already fast tracked the process,” Sawant said.
“More than 147 claims under the Forest Rights Act have been cleared so far. The tribal communities have made immense contributions to the freedom struggle and development of the State and the country. We are committed to the all round development of tribes in the State,” said Sawant.
