PONDA: Water supply to major parts of Ponda taluka and Old Goa will be restricted till Monday since the Opa water treatment plant is flooded due to cracks in the pipeline that supplies raw water to the plant.
Due to the flooding, all the seven motors and two motors that are on standby got submerged in water, hence, have become defunct. However, water supply to Tiswadi taluka will not be affected as its treatment facility is located separately.
Assistant Engineer Sudhir Parab said that all the motors have been sent for repair at Vasco and that two of them would be ready by Saturday late evening and the rest would be ready by Sunday; meanwhile, alternative arrangement is being made to supply water.
Parab informed that the 12 MLD plant and 8 MLD plant supplying water to Ponda town is functioning, as such the town and some parts of taluka would get water through it. However, he said, efforts would be made to provide water through tankers. He hoped that by Monday water supply would be restored to all parts of Ponda and Old Goa.
