VASCO: The Opposition Congress on Wednesday protested over the delay in opening of the renovated old fish market at Vasco and threatened to forcibly shift traditional vendors in the market if the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) fails to throw it open within next 45 days.
Congress Minority Department Chairman Nazir Khan said that the MMC had recently stated that the renovated fish market would be opened soon but till date no steps have been taken in this regard.
He said that after a long time Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar during his tenure as a councillor took the initiative and renovated the entire area. But the renovated market had to be closed due to tussle between Salkar and the then MLA over the claims of credit for the development.
