Opinion Poll celebrations to divide, appease people: Cong

PANJIM: Alleging that the ongoing debate on the Opinion Poll celebration and installation of Dr Jack de Sequeira statue in the Assembly complex is a move to divide and appease people, who are anguished with the BJP-led government, Congress on Thursday claimed that the people are waiting for an opportunity to avenge the BJP.
“The celebration of Opinion Poll and talks about installing Dr Jack de Sequeira statue in the Assembly complex and the differences of opinion brewing within the ruling dispensation, are nothing but a well-scripted drama by Manohar Parrikar, Vijai Sardesai and Sudin Dhavalikar,” All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Girish Chodankar said.
“Ahead of Parliamentary elections, this is an effort to divide the voters and appease those who feel that BJP and Goa Forward have betrayed them, their trust and the mandate they gave during the last Assembly election,” he said.
“But the people of Goa are not fools. They are waiting for the first opportunity to avenge the government. BJP will lose both Lok Sabha seats,” Chodankar said, adding, “If the State goes for early polls, BJP will not win more than five seats alone.”
The Congress leader said the government has no moral ethics to celebrate Opinion Poll day, as they failed to respect the people’s mandate given in favour of Congress in the last election. “They manipulated people’s mandate and formed the government. They have lost all credibility to celebrate Opinion Poll day,” Chodankar said.
He said that rather than celebrating the day, the government should respect the people’s opinion and sentiments on issues like coal, national waterways, casino and Mhadei river diversion. “That would be the real asmitai dis,” he stated.
