PANJIM: Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Wednesday said that a chapter on Goa’s Opinion Poll will not be included in text books from this coming academic year.
“A proposal had come to the Goa Board in February 2018 and a committee was formed. To include the topics of Goa’s Opinion Poll and other related topics of the history of Goa the committee will need time as preparations have to be done and instructional matter prepared,” GBSHSE Chairman Ramakrishna Samant said.
He added, “By the next academic year, 2019-20, it will be included in the syllabus. We had received suggestions from the Chief Minister as well other people for the inclusion of Opinion Poll in the syllabus.”
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in January this year had said that the history of Goa’s liberation struggle and that of the Opinion Poll movement will be included in the school curriculum before the commencement of the academic year 2019-20, as history taught in schools was incomplete.
Coalition partners in the government had demanded the inclusion of the Opinion Poll and also modern Goan history in the school syllabus.
