MARGAO: South Goa District Congress president Joseph Dias has demanded a public apology from both Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and his guest actor Rakhi Sawant for hurting the religious sentiments of Goans particularly the Catholics by their posts on Facebook.
Rakhi posted some pictures of her taken at a church to greet people on Good Friday but committed the faux pas of wishing people a “happy” Good Friday to which Joseph has taken strong objection and pointed out that while it was a Good Friday when Jesus Christ gave up his life for humanity, he said by no standards could it be a “happy” day.
He accused Dr Pramod Sawant of deliberately using Rakhi Sawant for hurting Christian sentiments.
on such a holy day only because he wants to divide and rule and wants to create differences between the various religious communities in Goa.
He said earlier the Tourism Department had called Shivaji an invader thus angering the Maratha community and now is trying to disturb the Catholic community with such totally unacceptable posts.
He demanded that a FIR be filed immediately against Rakhi Sawant for hurting the sentiments of Goans and pointed out that Good Friday is observed with great solemnity with many Catholics even fasting on that day in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.
He said acts like these will only make people vote for a different government in 2022 “thus giving Goans a bright Easter in 2022”.
