MARGAO: Margao Carnival route fight has turned murkier as twelve councillors of the opposition benches have filed a complaint against Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Pooja Naik for having fabricated a municipal resolution and for misuse of power while in court over the petition for deciding the route for Margao carnival. The councillors have demanded filing FIR against the chairperson for the alleged act, said the president of the Margao Carnival Committee of the MMC Arthur D’Silva.
Besides Arthur, councillors Clara Fernandes, Ketan Kurtarkar, Damodar R. Naik, Doris J. Texeira, Manoj J. Masurkar, Rupesh R. Mahatme, Sharad Giri Prabhudesai, Vinay K. Shirodkar, Jafar M. Budhani, Deepa D. Shirodkar and Sugandha R. Bandekar have filed a complaint filed with District Collector, Police, Director of Tourism, SP South Goa and MMC Chief Officer.
The Complaint read, “The referred resolution was made known to us in the High Court when we were served on February 21, 2020. The said resolution is fabricated and misuse of official powers. The resolution is fabricated and back dated to make false use before the High Court” said the complaint.
“It is thus necessary to register an FIR for falsely creating back dated resolution and fabricating the document. Out of the members’ present, majority members proposed that the carnival parade for this year shall be carried out from Holy Spirit Church to MMC route as the carnival parade was traditionally held” said the complaint.
It is to be noted that the Margao float parade is scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 23.
The Carnival Committee has erected the stage in the municipal square and also put up various decorations in medians and traffic islands in Margao. While committee sources state that there are still attempts being made by the councillors in the opposition to somehow shift the parade on the old route, sources in the ruling group’s camp have been celebrating the HC verdict and suggested that the float parade will be held on the Fatorda parade route and not Margao.
