MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat reiterated his demand for total lockdown welcoming the order of High Court with regard to making COVID negative certificate compulsory for entering Goa.
“It is a welcome sign that the Judiciary has taken serious cognizance of what is happening around and the Courts are now giving directions to the governments to act swiftly to save precious lives. We demanded lockdown but the government is still not listening. Hope better sense will prevail soon” said Kamat.
He takes a dig at the BJP governments at the Centre and State stating both are getting blows from the High Courts and Supreme Court exposing the harsh reality that the BJP governments did nothing to face the second wave of COVID.
“Our leader Rahul Gandhi had warned the government as early as March 2020 that the tsunami of COVID and economic disaster will hit India. He had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to act. But, nothing happened and we see a massive wave of COVID spreading all over the country with household budgets collapsing,” he further stated.
Kamat informed that Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to the Prime Minister with various valuable suggestions and also raising concerns on the complete unpreparedness of the BJP governments in handling COVID even now.
“If the government had paid attention to his alarm in February 2020, COVID situation would have been different today,” Digambar said.
He further demanded inspection of all the medical oxygen facilities by an all-party delegation, on Saturday.
“I demand Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant must take note and act immediately,” he said challenging the govt to dare to do a joint inspection.
“Goans were expecting a big decision but CM announced curfew. Goa needs bigger measures. Lip service will not work anymore. Numbers are rising and people are dying,” he said.
