PANJIM: The Opposition parties on Sunday criticised the BJP government for failing to generate employment after the State was rated second in unemployment in the country.

The date released by Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) showed that unemployment rate in Haryana was 28.1 per cent and 22.1 per cent in Goa while, the unemployment rate in the country declined from 6.90 per cent in February 2021 to 6.52 per cent in March this year.

Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat remarked that the data released by CMIE ranking Goa as second in unemployment is one more feather in the cap of the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Kamat stated that the directionless BJP government has pushed Goa into financial bankruptcy and economic disaster since grabbing power in 2012. BJP government must now stop fooling and start fulfilling the promises given to the people of Goa.

The data released by the CMIE has once again exposed the false claims of the BJP government on employment in the State. This is a tight slap on the face of all those who are doing false propaganda of creating job opportunities to youth in Goa, he said.

Kamat alleged that the BJP government has finished the employment opportunities one after the other after grabbing power in 2012. They stopped mining, did not take any proactive steps to boost tourism, shelved the Goa Vision-2035 report and also failed to revive the economy.

The performance report of the BJP government from 2012 is reflected in the 21 cases of corruption and illegalities ordered for investigation by the former Goa Lokayukta. Besides this they don’t have a single achievement to show, Kamat said.

“The Chief Minister finally agreed to my suggestion to implement Goemcho Daiz scheme. I once again demand that he must immediately accept and start implementing ‘Goa Vision-2035’ document, which can actually create employment opportunities and revive economy,” Kamat said.

It is high time that Chief Minister announces Economic Revival Package to boost marginalised sector. If the Government fails to take note of the situation, next month Goa will be on top of the unemployment chart Digambar Kamat said.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) has sarcastically congratulated Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over the skyrocketing unemployment rate in the State .GFP vice president Durgadas Kamat tweeted, “I take this opportunity to congratulate Chief Minister @DrPramodPSawant for topping the #UnemploymentRate. Goa (22.1%) is much more ahead of National Average (6.5%). I am sure @PMOIndia @narendramodi will be proud of @BJP4Goa CM @DrPramodPSawant!”

Unemployment in Goa is a major matter of concern and the State requires a recovery plan to emerge from this. The unemployment rate in Goa is dropping in the past two months since economic activity began to slowly rise again.
