PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Friday said that the BJP spokesman Urfan Mulla had no moral right to speak against Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat and the party.
On Thursday, BJP spokesman Urfan Mulla had alleged that Kamat was instrumental in ‘finishing the Congress Party” in the state.
Reacting to the allegations, Congress spokesman Amarnath Panjikar said that Mulla is trying to tarnish the image of Congress leader for vested interest. “He (Mulla) betrayed Congress and joined BJP for vested interest. Now he has no moral right to speak against our leader. He should have raised the issue when he was in Congress Party,” said Panjikar.
“Congress party never speaks about internal affairs of BJP, then why BJP is trying to peep in Congress?, he asked.
In an apparent jibe at Mulla, the Panjikar said,“Mulla should first think whether he could be loyal to any party,” Panjikar said demanding that the government should act against those involved in Rs 35,000 crore mining scam.
Congress minority department leader Niazi Shaikh accused Mulla of trying to malign Kamat for personal benefits.
“Muslim community is with Congress Party because it is not communal. We stand with Congress because it is a secular party. Impression created by BJP minority leader that Muslim community is with them is wrong,” Sheikh said.
