Oppn leader challenges government’s job provision claims, urges reservation in pvt sector

PORVORIM: Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged that the government has failed to take guaranteed measures when it comes to ensuring employment for Goans in the private sector. Alemao pointed out that 33 placement drives were conducted by the government, but their

appointment letters have not been maintained by the Labour and Employment Department.

Stating that the mega job events provided only 500 temporary jobs, he said the government must bring out a law for reservations in the private sector.

“Statements are made that two lakh jobs will be provided in five years. Is it possible to do that? This, I think, should stop,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition also alleged that the government has failed to address the cases of mundkarial and tenancy cases. He said the disaster management squad of the government itself is a disaster as it is ill equipped in both the districts of the State.

Alemao asked what the government intends to do with contractual labourers who have been in service for eight or ten years but their services have not been confirmed.

He also pointed out that the inter-State Migration Workers Board has not met for the last 10 or 12 years and wanted to know the reason for the lapse.

He said the government should encourage village panchayats to set up small waste handling facilities and claimed that the garbage treatment plant proposed at Verna Industrial Estate will destroy the environment, as well as River Sal.
