MARGAO: The Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Thursday urged the Director of Food & Drugs Administration to inspect the godowns of fruit vendors for any illegal methods used by them for artificially ripening bananas and other fruits.
The MLA’s request comes after a video of alleged artificial ripening of bananas in Kharebandh went viral on social media.
The Margao MLA urged Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to direct FDA officials to inspect all such godowns.
He informed that has also spoken to South Goa Collector and has asked him to keep a check on all such fruit vendors and their godowns.
He took to social media after taking cognizance of the viral video showing some workers washing bananas and filling them in plastic crates.
Meanwhile, the Margao MLA on Thursday inspected the Vidyanagar area where some sewage chambers were found overflowing due to blockage in the pipelines connecting the two chambers.
Kamat has appealed to the residents to ensure that material such as plastic bags, sacks etc, are not dumped in sewage lines, which eventually lead to blockage of lines causing overflowing of chambers.
