Oppn Leader Yuri warns against BJP’s ‘forcefully imposed projects’

MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has urged Goans to be vigilant and resist the BJP government’s “forcefully imposed projects”,  like the Mopa Airport, IIT, Film City, the three  Linear Projects,  marinas, Smart City, the proposed theme park and ghost houses among others, claiming that these projects will forever haunt future generations.

In response to recent reports of a sharp decline in activities at the Dabolim Airport, a surge in ‘ghost house numbers’ issued in Old Goa, green land allocated for a theme park in Pernem, and attempts to push for the Indian Institute of Technology and Film City in Rivona and Canacona, Alemao issued a clarion call for Goans to ‘rise up and save Goa’.

He emphasised that history has repeatedly shown that projects imposed without a detailed project report and without assessing their benefits to Goa and Goans have turned out to be disastrous. Alemao cited the example of handing over extensive land to Zuari Agro Chemicals for setting up an industry to provide employment to Goans, which, according to him, has now been used for real estate development with no benefits to Goans.

Alemao added that he had raised the issue of the ‘Ghost Airport’ last year in the Goa Assembly, and the recent report on the decline in business at Dabolim has vindicated his stand. He cautioned people not to get swayed by BJP’s election-oriented promises and urged them to question every move of the government.
