MARGAO: Ruling BJP on Thursday inducted 18 new members including long time Congress loyalist Iqbal Mohammad to make its fort stronger for the ensuing Margao municipal elections.
Iqpal was the Haj Committee chairman from 2010 to 2016 and worked for the Congress for many years.
“I was impressed with the president’s statement that the BJP wants to do something for the minority and as Urfan Mulla have already joined the party I too decided to join it,” said Iqbal.
Along with Iqbal, Soham Almeida, who is son of well-known doctor Francisco Almeida also joined the BJP. And though the BJP leadership said there were 30 joining the party in reality only 18 arrived to receive the shawl and welcome rose.
BJP State President Sadanand Tanavde all praise for Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in a media brief said, “His governance in making more people, particularly the youth to join the party.”
