PORVORIM: The Opposition benches took on the government over the poor handling of BJP’s pet schemes – Laadli Laxmi and Griha Aadhar, lamenting that if benefits are not reaching out to the poor then it should be scrapped.

However, while Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira demanded the benefits be delivered to beneficiaries as he reposed faith in the Minister, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar cited two instances wherein the eligible beneficiaries were denied the scheme.

“In one case, the Griha Aadhar scheme stopped reaching one family and on enquiry, the woman was told that the inspection team did not locate her residential address. In another instance, wrong information was fed to the Department of Women & Child Development (WCD) that the beneficiary’s husband was a government servant. The surveyor is not carrying out its work properly,” Amonkar said during the discussion on the motion of demands for grants on WCD.

While slamming the government for several thousand pending applications for approval and release of funds, he also pointed to over 22,000 pending Laadli Laxmi applications. Amonkar raised the issue of pendency of applications with Goa Electronics Limited and with the selection committee, stating that beneficiaries should get their rights.

Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao demanded better facilities and infrastructure for anganwadis. He also demanded creating shelter for men who are affected due to domestic violence on lines with shelter home for women in need of care.On the increasing teenage pregnancies, Alemao expressed concern seeking government’s intervention.
