MARGAO: Six opposition Margao Municipal Councilors will call on Margao MLA Digambar Kamat seeking his guidance on the instability plaguing the Civic body in view of the demand for resignation of the Municipal Chairperson by five members of the ruling group.
Sources in the know said the ex-chief minister will meet his group of Councilors and discuss the political situation in the Civic body. The role of the six Councilors assumes significance and they hold the key to the fate of Municipal Chairperson, Arthur D’Silva.
Meanwhile, Arthur told newsmen on Friday that he enjoys the support of 15 Councilors in the 20-member body. He said his rival group is reduced to bare five members in the Civic body and did not see any threat to his continuance in office.
In fact, Arthur said the Civic body is holding a football match at Fatorda on Saturday morning, even as the opposition group pointed out that they were not taken into confidence before finalizing the match.
In the meantime, Pratima Coutinho told newsmen that her reigns as Municipal vice-chairperson ended on Friday since she refused to withdraw her resignation within the seven day period.
