PORVORIM:  The House witnessed much uproar on Thursday as Opposition MLAs walked into the well of the House seeking Speaker’s intervention in the matter related to non-inclusion of Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao’s name in the invite for Cucolim Chieftains’ Martyrs Day celebration event scheduled to be held on Friday.

When the Assembly session commenced on Thursday morning, Opposition MLAs alleged that government always sidelines them and urged Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar to issue requisite directions. Alemao said this is an insult to the people of Cuncolim.

Showing the invitation copy in the House, Alemao said Goa was put to shame by distributing photocopied invitations and have insulted the Cuncolkars by not mentioning the MLA’s name.

“The government that talks of nationalism and patriotism has no money to print proper invitations and has no courtesy to mention the MLA’s andchairperson’s name in the invitation card,” he said.

The Opposition MLAs returned back to their chairs after Speaker assured to issue necessary directions.

Chief Minister PramodSawant tried to diffuse the matter by pointing out that the event was being held for the very first time and that even the name of Archaeology Minister is not mentioned on the invite, though it comes within his ambit.

He also urged the Speaker not to allow the discussion and to go ahead with the Question Hour.

To this, GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai said MLA cannot be denied his right to talk. “The attempt is a rape on democracy. The MLA has full right to speak,” he said.
