PANJIM: The opposition parties on Saturday decided to field Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira for the post of Speaker, the election which for which is slated for Tuesday.
A meeting of all opposition MLAs was held in the Goa Assembly Complex, Porvorim to finalise the candidate for the Speaker’s post and to chalk out their strategy for the two-day Assembly session commencing from Tuesday.
After the meeting, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that the combine opposition has decided to field former Minister Aleixo Sequeira for the Speaker’s post. He said that both the AAP Members were also present during the meeting whe Sequeira’s name was proposed. The lone RGP MLA Viresh Borkar will also be a part of the combined opposition, he said adding that the opposition will unitedly take up issues concerning the people.
Sequeira, who also had been Deputy Speaker for a brief period will file his nomination on Monday.
To a question, Lobo said that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader will be announced by the High Command any time from now. He said that he was summoned by the High Command in Delhi and that he submitted a report of the Assembly election results.
