PANJIM: Congress on Friday demanded that BJP National president Amit Shah, during his May 13 visit to Goa, spell out what the State government is doing to ensure the resumption of mining operations.
Addressing media persons, Congress general secretary Yatish Naik questioned the seriousness of the BJP-led State government to resume mining activity in the State..
“Over three months have passed and the government has not taken any action to restart mining in the State. This reflects on the state of administration and policy of the government. There is complete collapse. After the February 7 judgment, which ensured the closure of mining from March 16, the government has no idea as to what action to take,” Naik said.
The Congress leader demanded that the government must quit for its failure to firm up an action plan and policy approach to restart sustainable mining operations, especially in absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Naik said Shah should address the issue of resumption of sustainable mining activity, during his visit to the State on Sunday.
“We also call on Shah to dismantle this undemocratically installed State government for its failure to adopt an action plan for the resumption of sustainable mining activity in terms of law,” he stated.
Naik said Shah and his party cannot hold the State and it’s administration to ransom thereby prejudicing the people only to satisfy BJP’s greed and lust for power.
Naik, a lawyer by profession, said the period to file a review petition on February 7 judgement was 30 days, which have lapsed as for the last three months, the government has been groping in the dark.
Naik said the Congress, which is the principal opposition party is willing to cooperate with the government to find a solution to the mining crisis. “In view of the SC judgment, and considering the law, we are willing to cooperate but government is doing nothing but talking with no action taken. Therefore it is very clear that BJP government is suffering from paralysis (of administration) and they are unable to govern and they don’t know how to take decisions and what is to be done,” he alleged.
