MARGAO: DefExpo opponents waved black flags at the thousands of people who attended the Expo in Quitol on Thursday. They have vowed to continue their fight over the issue and strictly monitor the clean-up operations.
While the curtains came down on the Defence Expo 2016, the villagers have been left miserable due to the poor water supply and garbage dumped in their surroundings. The residents of the adjoining villages also witnessed the same problems on the fourth and final day of the expo. Water was scarce throughout the day, while the large amount of garbage generated from the Expo and dumped in the open has increased and is waiting to be picked.
“We are keeping a close eye on the withdrawal operations of the DefExpo organisers and will protest if they do not keep their promise of cleaning the entire area and restoring it to normal,” said Freddy D’Silva, a protestor.
He added, “The case we filed before the High Court will come up for hearing on April 8 and we are hopeful of getting relief.”
The enthusiasm of the people who attended the DefExpo was very high. However, the roads to Quitol were inadequate given the large number of visitors. Several people were stranded at the Cuncolim-Balli Junction due to the narrow roads.
