Opposition again claims it has been silenced

PANJIM: The Opposition, including independent MLAs, again
accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of curtailing their voice in the
ongoing session of the State Legislative Assembly.

Addressing the media at the Assembly complex on Monday,
the MLAs said important and burning issues which need to be discussed in the House
are being selectively sidelined by the Speaker.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said the Speaker is acting at
the behest of the government and taking orders from the Chief Minister. “First
they curtailed the questions, then discussion time and now they are curtailing
congratulatory motions,” Sardesai said.

Issues like nationalization of inland water ways,
foreigners in illegal business etc are being sidelined for the discussion, he
added.

Former chief minister Digambar Kamat said the speaker
is now not admitting calling attention motions raised by the opposition. “Issues
like highway cleaning, foreigners running bars and restaurants were important
issues which were not allowed to be discussed in the Assembly,” Kamat said
