OPPOSITION ALLEGES STEPMOTHERLY TREATMENT TOWARDS HERITAGE OF GOA, DEMANDS FRAMING OF HERITAGE POLICY TO PROTECT TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF GOA

MLA Vijai Sardesai has demanded a work audit of the Archives Department raising the issue of degrading archives and artefacts of Goa due to neglect. Sardesai demanded assurance in the House for framing of Heritage Policy. He has demanded the listing of heritage properties, to have regulations and ensure they are followed to protect the heritage. 

Sardesai said, “There is a need to ensure time bound delivery of the work of preservation of archives”. 

“The 53 protected sites are at the vagaries of anti-social elements. There is a need to increase the budget for Archaeology,” he added. “There is a need for review and practical protection of monuments that need protection,” Sardesai said.  

“Manuscripts from 1537 AD that are stored in the Central Library of Patto Panjim is a heritage of Goa which is under threat of getting destroyed.

MLA Carlos Fereira has demanded for grading of the tangible and intangible Heritage of Goa State for and includes the possibility of helping revive and restore the heritage structures in Goa.
