PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Friday slammed the government over frequent rise in fuel price and alleged that Pramod Sawant-led cabinet is destroying the legacy of ex-Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar who had promised that petrol price will not cross Rs 60 per litre in the State.
At a press conference held at the party head office, party vice president Sankalp Amonkar accused the government of creating ‘financial emergency’ in the State. “The most corrupt BJP Government headed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has created financial emergency in the State with its anti-people, insensitive and pro-capitalist policies. The recent increase in VAT by the BJP Government which has further increase the price of Diesel and Petrol is a proof that Lootmar BJP Sarkar has pushed Goa into bankruptcy,” he said.
Amonkar further stated that the people of Goa are expecting relief from the government as the COVID-19 pandemic has severely cringed everyone’s household budget. “The government should have given subsidies in fuel prices, instead the insensitive government has hiked the VAT leading to steep rise in fuel prices,” he added.
Meanwhile, The newly appointed Goa Congress’ State Co-ordination Committee will seek opinion of its cadres, across all 40 Assembly constituencies, before taking a call on any pre-poll alliance for 2022 State elections.
Speaking to Herald, Committee chairman, former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap on Friday, said, ‘at this point there is no question on holding discussion on pre-poll alliance. There is still time for the party. It’s too early to comment on having any pre-poll alliance and any decision on it will be taken by the High Command.’
“For now, the focus is on to rebuild the party organisation right from grassroots level. We need to regain people’s trust and prepare our workers for the polls,” Khalap said.
Khalap said that since Congress works in a democratic manner, the workers feedback will be given utmost importance. “Whatever our workers express in the view of the prevailing situation, we will collate all and submit it to High Command for decision,” he said.
