Opposition to increase setback of National highway

Margao: The Navelim Gram Sabha on Sunday has resolved to strongly oppose the move of the State Government to increase the setback of National Highway to 40 meters.

Margao: The Navelim Gram Sabha on Sunday has resolved to strongly oppose the move of the State Government to increase the setback of National Highway to 40 meters. The Gram Sabha has unanimously resolved to send the dissent letter to all the related Government departments regarding the opposition. Other issues like garbage woes rental rooms to migrants and illegal plots developed in Mandop over the canal were also discussed at the meeting
 Set back on NH 17 was 23 meters earlier which has now been raised to 40 meters by the State Government. There is a fear and anxiety amongst the villagers of Navelim as the lots of local Goans will lose huge lands. “The people who had bought land back when the setback was 23 mts are now worried of losing their daily bread and shelter and the Gram Sabha has taken objection to this. We will fight against the increase in setback” said Siddharth Karapurkar. “This huge setback is only for Mopa airport road” Siddharth added.
“The Panchayat has received correspondence that we wont be able to develop some of our land due to the increase in set back. We oppose this move in one voice and will write to TCP and all other departments registering protest against the increase of setback” said Sarpanch Franky Fernandes.
Garbage management and rental rooms to migrants issues were discussed.
 at the meeting as members were not happy with action the taken by the Panchayat.
