VALPOI: The special gram sabha of Mauxi panchayat saw villagers slam the panch members for turning a blind eye to illegal activities in their jurisdiction. Heated discussions also took place on illegal scrapyards, illegal land-plotting and the panchayat’s new building.
Residents were angry over the new building issue because a fund of Rs 30 lakh that had been sanctioned by the RDA had been revoked by the same department as the panchayat had not used the money for more than three years.
The existing building is in a dilapidated state. Nagve resident Avinash Jadhav stated that the panch members were not serious about the issue, and therefore, did not have any right to remain members. Sarpanch Tukaram Gaonkar agreed that the revocation of the funds was due to negligence by the members. He assured to get more funds, but the locals were not satisfied with his answer.
Koparde youth Uday Sawant raised the issues of an illegal scrapyard and illegal plotting of land at Nagve village. He said it would create a problem for locals and demanded that action be taken. Locals Avinash Jadhav, Dhananjay Paryekar, Vishnu Kudtarkar, Vithu Gawas, Pandurang Sawant and others demanded that a complaint be lodged with the Chief Minister and North Goa Collector.
On the mobile tower issue, Sawant stated that a mobile network was a necessity for people and urged the panchayat to issue permission for the same.
