CUNCOLIM: Three Congress ticket aspirants in Cuncolim displayed a rare show of unity in the constituency by kicking off the party’s door-to-door campaign.
Former CMC chairperson Devendra Dessai, ZP member Clafacio Dias and John Monteiro kicked off the door-to-door campaign along with AICC Observer Sarvanand and Congress workers.
All 3 aspirants along with their supporters went to the Cuncolim market and distributed leaflets of Congress charge sheet on the BJP government.
Questions were raised over the absence of former MLA Joaquim Alemao during the campaign.
Sources informed that Joaquim Alemao and his supporters boycotted the campaign despite being invited by AICC observer Sarvanand.
All the Congress supporters accepted the request of AICC observer Sarvanand to work unitedly to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
When contacted, some supporters said they would act as per their leaders’ directions. The three aspirants informed media persons that they would work for party’s victory if any one of them gets the party ticket and strongly opposed Joaquim’s candidature.
They said that they won’t mind supporting anyone from constituency but we will certainly not allow an outsider to rule it. It is certain that this time Joaquim will have a tough time as defying AICC observer’s invitation can go against him.
