Orange warning continues for goa till july 25

PANJIM: The flood-prone areas of Sattari, Ponda, Sanquelim, Sanguem and Pernem together reported huge amunts of rainfall in last 24 hours, as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data. 

As warned by IMD earlier, the incessant rains led to rise in water level of major rivers like Mhadei, Valvanti, Kalna, Khandepar, Chapora which led to water entering into the village areas causing major flooding and destruction. 

The Valpoi Rain Gauge station recorded the highest 11.66 inches (296.2mm) of rains while Sanquelim witnessed 7.01 inches (178.2mm) of rainfall, Ponda also saw 4.21  inches of rains (107mm) while Pernem saw around 2 inches of showers. 

The stations like Sanguem (8.38 inches), Quepem (5.84inches) and Canacona (5.68 inches) also saw heavy rains in last 24 hours. 

IMD Goa has predicted heavy showers with Orange warning for Goa till July 25. 

“With increased rainfall activity to continue, the areas vulnerable for landslide and flooding will be kept under monitoring. Water levels in rivers may be monitored and necessary precautions to be taken,” IMD said. 

The month of July so far has received 46 inches of rains of the total 84 inches recorded for the season since June 1.
