MARGAO: The Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Salcete have issued an order to Global Ispaat Limited, Cuncolim, directing the removal of a structure and shed in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate and restoration of the land to its original condition. This development follows a complaint filed by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao and his subsequent meeting with the South Goa Collector.
LoP Yuri Alemao expressed satisfaction with the order, stating that it once again exposes the illegalities in Cuncolim Industrial Estate. The order reveals that Global Ispaat Limited utilised agricultural land in Survey No. 303/3 of Village Cuncolim for non-agricultural purposes without providing any documents or permissions for land conversion under Section 32 of the Land Revenue Code, 1968. The company also failed to comply with authorities’ directions to remove materials from the site.
“Air and water pollution and illegalities in Cuncolim Industrial Estate causing a serious health hazard, as well as loss to the State revenue, have always been a matter of concern for me. I had raised the issue consistently in all the five sessions of the Goa Legislative Assembly. I am happy that the Authorities have started acting against the violators,” the LoP added.
“I have also taken up the issue of Pollution with Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). I hope that stringent measures shall be taken to curb the pollution caused by various units in Cuncolim Industrial Estate. GSPCB must monitor the activities in the Estate round the clock,” said Alemao.
“I had demanded the formation of the nodal agency to coordinate with various departments to monitor the activities in Cuncolim Industrial Estate and control pollution, illegalities, irregularities and accidents,” he added.
