VASCO: The order on the bail applications of the four persons, including an elderly woman, arrested allegedly for extortion at Arossim has been adjourned to December 11.
The four persons were arrested last week by Verna police.
Earlier, a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Mormugao rejected the bail application of the four and remanded them in police custody for 12 days.
The arrested are identified as Salim Dodamani (24), Khurum Hussain (36), Imam Behatti (19) and Vera Falcao (65).
The complainant Kenneth Saldhana (41), a resident of Arossim and Vera Falcao are relatives. During the course of investigation, it came to light that the arrested woman allegedly owes Rs 35 lakh to the complainant.
Due to this, the arrested woman allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh to Salim, Khurum and Imam to threaten and extort Rs 5 lakh from the complainant. Thereafter the complainant received threatening calls for money and that he may lose his life failing to pay the ransom money. The three arrested persons also came to the house of the complainant and allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.
After this incidence, the complaint lodged a complaint with Verna police. A week ago, the police nabbed the three persons. After thorough investigation, it came to light that they were hired by Vera Falcao to extort money from complainant.
