PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has reserved till Monday its order on the disqualification petition against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
The Congress that had filed the petition against their former MLA has sought his disqualification stating that Rane didn’t obey the party whip to vote against the Manohar Parrikar government.
While Rane’s counsel contended that the Speaker is the primary authority to decide on his disqualification, the Congress Counsel contended that Rane signed the party whip.
directing all party MLAs to vote against the Manohar Parrikar government, but after taking oath as MLA he left the Assembly. Counsel mentioned that the disqualification came in force the moment Rane didn’t vote against the Parrikar government violating the party whip.
However, counsel for Rane contended that the Speaker is the primary and only authority to decide on disqualification of an MLA and that the petitioner should approach the Speaker first.
After hearing both parties, the High Court reserved its order. The High Court is likely to pronounce the order on Monday.
