PANJIM: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa, affiliated to Congress, has called upon President of India Ram Nath Kovind to order an investigation into the video clip that shows a minor boy from Bicholim confessing of drug consumption, provided to him free of cost.
A letter has also been forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor of Goa Satya Pal Malik and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
The video clip of the minor boy went viral on social media on Monday.
“NSUI, as a responsible student organisation would like to bring to your notice a video that has gone viral on social media where a boy has confessed (using) drugs due to which he met with an accident,” NSUI Goa chief Ahraz Mulla said.
He said that it is very disturbing to see such incidents taking place in Goa and that it needs to be dealt with utter seriousness. “We request you to have a thorough investigation in this entire matter and come with a solution to stop the young hearts falling into the evil world of drugs,” Mulla said.
The NSUI chief claimed that in the last 3-4 years there were numerous cases of drug abuse in colleges.
NSUI has demanded that directions be issued for putting in place a drug sentinel system where students can anonymously inform about drug consumption and establishment of functional anti-narcotics committee in all the colleges in Goa.
The organisation has also demanded monitoring of night clubs by police.
“With so many cases of drugs, it is clear that drug mafia exists and NSUI is ready to help the Home Department to get rid this menace so that the youth of the State and Country may have a brighter future,” Mulla said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat has also demanded an inquiry into the viral video clip. “The viral video of a teenage boy under influence of drugs has brought to light the rising cases of supply and consumption of narcotic drugs in Goa,” he said.
“Let us all rise above other priorities and unitedly come forward to kill the ‘Bhasmasura of Drugs; before it is too late,” the former chief minister tweeted.
