PORVORIM: A motorcycle rider from Orissa died after he was knocked down by a tourist bus at Porvorim Bazar on Monday evening.
According to Porvorim Police, the accident occurred at about 7:15 pm when the tourist bus (GA-03-Z-7708) was proceeding from Mapusa towards Panjim. On reaching Porvorim Bazaar, the bus knocked down the motorcycle (GA-03-M-8513).
Police informed that the bus driver fled from the scene but later surrendered to the police at about 9 pm.
Speaking to Herald, the bus driver, Daulsab Karan (49), who hails from Dharwad-Karnataka, said he was proceeding towards Hampi. “The motorcycle was behind an oncoming lorry, which was proceeding towards Mapusa. Suddenly, the motorcycle rider tried to overtake the lorry but dashed against the bus,” informed Karan.
The mishap led to a traffic jam for about an hour. Police said the deceased is said to be a native of Orissa but his identity is not known. Police is investigating the case.
