MARGAO: Orlim villagers at a special gram sabha on Sunday approved a surplus budget of Rs 6.85 lakh as its projected income was more than the projected expenditure even though it has an opening balance of Rs 45 lakh.
The total receipts projected was Rs 69.66 lakhs of which major portion would be from government grants of Rs 15 lakhs for the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Rs 3 lakh for garbage management and it expects Rs 20 lakh by way of grants under the 14th Finance Commission.
The panchayat expects Rs 4.5 lakh from house tax collection, Rs 30,000 from trade tax and Rs 1 lakh from construction licence fee.
The total expenditure of the panchayat is projected at Rs 62.81 lakh of which major chunk will go to establish the MRF; besides the Rs 5 lakh to be spent on providing bins to villagers to directly convert their wet waste into compost. Besides, the panchayat has set aside Rs 3 lakh for door-to-door garbage collection and also cleaning the roadside waste.
