Residents of Orlim on Tuesday held a dharna at the Panchayat Ghar in protest against the police inaction against an illegal construction of a well on a land which is proposed for acquisition by the Panchayat body.
The construction activity carried out by the driver of a high ranking collectorate official had kicked off a row on Monday after the Colva police refused to intervene and stop the construction work.
Given the situation, Sarpanch Godfrey Rodrigues this morning issued a stop work order notice on the party to immediately stop the work as it was being carried out without permission.
The agitated residents along with the Sarpanch later went to the Colva police station and demanded to know why the police have been dragging their feet to stop the construction on Monday.
They demanded immediate action in the matter as the Panchayat has issued a stop work order notice on the party.
Meanwhile, in a reply to the stop work order, the brother of the driver maintained that the family consisting of 25 members has constructed the ring well due to extreme hardships and inconvenience because of water problem.
Vasudev Gadkari said the workers told him that no permission is required to construct a ring well and has now agreed to abide by the rules and regulations applicable to building of ring wells.
He made a request to the Panchayat not to go ahead with land acquisition of the plot of land from his property as it belonged to a huge family comprising of 25 members.
