MARGAO: The Orlim gram sabha had lengthy discussion over the work of preparing a footpath near the church whose work is proceeding at a very slow pace and villagers expressed fears that the mud dumped for the work will prove hazardous during the monsoons.
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation had started the work of laying the footpath in January this year and with the monsoons all set to hit Goa soon, the mud dumped by the side of the church for the work is what is worrying the people.
Sarpanch Tamica D’Silva assured the people that she would get the mud lifted so that it does not cause a hindrance during the monsoons. Incidentally, at a gram sabha held in 2017 the villagers had recommended to take up this work which is now being done by the GSIDC at a cost of around Rs 5 crore.
The villagers also asked the sarpanch to expedite the work of constructing the retaining wall by the side of the church which is undertaken by the Water Resources Department.
