MARGAO: Orlim gram sabha held under chairmanship of Sarpanch Gaundencio S Luis adopted a resolution directing the sarpanch to take legal opinion in respect of collecting one month’s rent from tenants as panchayat tax.
Villagers expressed fear that such an exercise would help in legalizing the right of those staying on rent.
Resolution was also adopted directing the panchayat body to send a notice to stop the operation of a cellular tower erected by Indus in the village after the sarpanch informed that there were no records available in the panchayat office permitting erection of the tower.
It may be recalled that at last gram sabha resolution was taken to impose tax on the cellular tower. However, when sarpanch checked the records it was found that the panchayat body had given no licence for its erection. Villagers also demanded that a reminder be send to the PWD authorities to demarcate internal roads in village while a demand to chief town planner to depict all 15 roads in village in the Regional Plan.
