Ashok Naik, Ex-major
You went into political herbination in 2006. But you are back in action. So what made you to change your decision?
I had decided not to get into CCP again, so I did not contest municipal election in 2006. But recently, a lot of prominent and active citizens of Panjim who have been pained to see happening in the CCP approached and requested me to contest again.
According to you what are the major problems before Panjim today?
Roads are bad, drainage system need to be looked at, parking problem has worsened. The other big problem is garbage. We desperately need to set-up a waste treatment plant
What would be your priority if your panel come back to power?
We would like to see that revenue collection of CCP goes up but without hiking house tax. We would ensure that there is flow of traffic and the city is freed from traffic congestion. We will also accord priority to repairs and revitization of St Inez Nullah.
The market committee that was appointed to enquire into market scam has not done anything. Will you take action against those involved in the market scam if your panel is elected?
The government has constituted a House Committee to enquire into market scam but given a chance we would like to clear the mess with regards to allocation of shops in the market. We want the third phase of the market is completed too.
But they allege market scam originated during your tenure.
All those allegations are baseless. Let the inquiry get over and the truth will come out.
Most of your candidates are new and you have just three sitting corporators on your panel.
Though most of our candidates are new they are all clean and non-corrupt and that’s enough for us to take on our rival panel.
Why did you chose to fight against Yatin Parekh?
We wanted a strong candidate against Parekh and I decided to take the challenge. The three time corporator has hardly done anything for his ward.
