VASCO: The silver jubilee of Our Lady of Desterro Church, Vasco, was celebrated with traditional pomp and religious fervour on Sunday. On the occasion, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao was the chief guest.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of celebrations, Cardinal Ferrao said that it was a delight for him to share the joy of the parish of the Desterro Church celebrating its silver jubilee of its erection.
Cardinal Ferrao said that during the last 25 years, the Parish has grown so much as a community and witnessed progress and saw so many parish priests, sisters, lay leaders and Parish Council members, who worked to build this parish community as the community of faith, love and witness to the values of the gospel.
The Cardinal greeted the parish priest and the entire community and prayed that Almighty bless them abundant.
Parish Priest Fr Xavier Braganza said that it was a great day for them who in last 25 years saw a rise in the number of faithfuls and witnessed many journeys of the parish members working for the betterment of the Church. He said that a lot of people from all communities including Hindus and Muslims have also worked hard for the betterment of the Church and participated in the function and attended the mass on Sunday.
Fr Braganza thanked Cardinal Ferrao for attending the silver jubilee function and for blessing all the people immaterial of the religion for the support and works towards the Church.
