Outdoor loud music parties continue unabated in Anjuna

ANJUNA: Even though the Anjuna police had booked owners of two commercial premises for playing loud music last week, loud music was blatantly played from outdoor parties during the last weekend in the coastal belt of Anjuna.

The parties that commenced at 7 pm, continued till 9 am the next day, violating the High Court directions.

Even when the authorities intervened, they used to lower the volume and again would be raised beyond the permissible limits.

While some of the music parties have moved indoors, the number of premises playing loud music outdoors is once again on the rise.

The High Court in its November 30, 2022 hearing, had asked the authorities concerned to take stern measures to stop loud music beyond 10 pm, except on designated dates.

Acting on the same, the menace of loud music parties which were being played in the coastal belt had come under control. However, the same is now being flouted.

The locals as well as the members of Noise Pollution Monitoring Committee of Anjuna, confirmed several establishments had played very loud music beyond 10pm during the last weekend.

“Even when the loud music is banned after 10 pm, loud music were full on, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, which continued till next day morning even till 9 am,” a local said.

“Very loud trance parties opposite Anjuna Police Station were full-on including other places. The police and the organisers of the parties are mocking the HC orders passed. Even the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the others assigned for monitoring are not there. This is a total mockery,” Desmond Alvares, a local said.
