Bicholim: In what was termed as a bizarre development by locals, the Bicholim Municipal Council on Wednesday allowed the vegetable sellers to sell their goods in the most unhygienic condition and many people expressed their great displeasure over it.
As Wednesday, is the weekly bazaar day in Bicholim, several vendors were seen selling vegetables at a place, which is usually used for parking and has invariably become a place for throwing away garbage by people. And the stench is quite bad too, as this area is also used often by many to urinate in this public place.
Sources stated that BMC had earlier restricted these vendors from selling their vegetables at the place just outside the market area. However in the evening there was a ‘big bazaar’.
“Not only have they violated section 144 and social distancing but they have also allowed these people to sell vegetables in these unhygienic conditions,” said local Satyawan Ghadi.
“This place is used by many for answering their nature’s call and now we see that they have started selling their vegetables by placing them on the ground. It is most unhygienic place in the city where even garbage is dumped and taking vegetables from here is the worst thing to do,” he added.
When contacted, the vegetable vendors said they had paid their sopo fees to the municipality for selling the vegetables at that place.
“In the morning this bazaar was stopped but by evening they had come back, which reflects poorly on BMC. This is not the right place for selling vegetables as it is not clean. BMC should take action against this as it is risking lives of the people from Bicholim,” another local named Krishna Pal, added.
