Over 100 saplings planted in Pilerne during Vanmahotsav

PILERNE: The Village of Pilerne has seen the plantation of
over 100 odd saplings in the area surrounding the Maina-Navetim crematorium
during the festival of Vanmahotsav. Various types of medicinal and fruit
bearing plants were planted in the forest area. Through this initiative they
intend to encourage tree plantation and preservation of green cover to maintain
ecological balance in their locality.

The initiative to celebrate this festival was taken up by
the Pilerne- Marra Village Panchayat in co-ordination with the Village
Development Committeee (VDC) and the Pilerne Village Bio-Diversity Committee.

The Sarpanch of Pilerne- Marra Village Panchayat, Amarnath
Govekar informed that this initiative was taken up by Pilerne Panchayat as a
challenge to increase the green cover in the village which is slowly fading
away due to the growing concrete jungle.

“As part of the festival of Vanmahotsav we planted over 50
Mango, Kokum and Neem saplings near the crematorium at Maina-Navetim. Most of
the saplings planted are two to three years old and are fruit bearing ones. The
area where we have taken up this drive comes under the forest area,” told
Amarnath.

While talking to Panch Member, Karan Govekar it was revealed
that this is a yearly affair taken up by the Pilerne- Marra Village Panchayat.
“Every year we celebrate this festival on a large scale and this year we are
delighted to once again receive a great response. We will continue to undertake
such initiatives that will contribute to make our society greener and
healthier,” told Karan.

Also
present for the celebrations were Deputy Sarpanch, Sonal Malvankar; Panch
Members, Sandeep Bandodkar, Brenda Vaz and others. This festival witnessed the
active participation of the locals
