Over 1000 Salcete students inoculated with first dose

Nearly 548 students of different educational institutions from Margao receive jab following consent from parents

MARGAO: More than thousand students from Salcete taluka between the age group of 15 to 18 were administered their first vaccine dose against coronavirus on Monday. Nearly 548 students of different educational institutions from Margao received their jab following consent from their parents. 

On Monday Urban Health Centre (UHC), Margao commenced its special drive of administering the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 at the Multi-Purpose Secondary and Higher Secondary School complex, Borda. Four teams constituted by the Health Centre under the supervision of Dr Soccoro Quadros, Medical Health Officer took up the challenging task of vaccination. 

Speaking to Herald, Dr Socorro said on the first day (Monday) 548 students between the age group of 15-18 were administered their first vaccine dose. 

“The target for the vaccination drive is thousand students per day, and UHC, Margao has received good response from the students and their parents. The drive will continue”, he said. 

Dr Pratiksha Kunkoliekar appealed to the parents to give their consent so that their kids are vaccinated against COVID-19. 

“UHC has constituted four teams and our target is vaccination of 700-1000 students per day. More we are vaccinated; the more will be the protection. Vaccination is the only preventive measure towards the increasing number of COVID-19 viruses”, she said. 

She appealed to the parents and public to come forward to get themselves vaccinated and follow the SOPs. 

“We had informed the students before starting the vaccination drive in the higher secondary school, and had appealed to the parents to give their consent. Hence, we were able to administer the first jab of vaccine to several students”, said Jose Gomes, Principal, Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Borda. 

Health Minister Dr Vishwajit Rane on Sunday had said, the target is proposed to be achieved in four days once the drive begins that is inoculating approximately 72,000 students in the 500-odd educational institutions.
